Berkley Vertic Heads

Posted by k5115116 On April - 30 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS Subscribe here

Whenever you use Jelly worms or other soft plastic lures you will find that some will come with little or no weight added to the body or head sections. Classics for this are Power-worms, Shads and Stick-baits. This is normally because it allows you the angler you choose your desired weight depending on fishing conditions and on how you want to present the soft bait for your targeted predatory fish. Berkley Vertic Heads are a lead head design with either Owner forged or VMC hooks for maximum hook ups.

The Berkley Vertic can be bought in different weights which allows you to quickly choose your desired weight on the day and also do a quick change if needed. All you have to do is slide the Berkley Vertic Head onto you desired plastic lure body.

A nice feature is that the lead head is very slick with great aerodynamics for long casting ability and a featured Super Grip Bait Keeper to keep everything together. Vertics come in Hi Viz colors, glow eyes and a polished finish. These really are the best looking lead heads on the market. With most lead heads you just get a ball of lead with a standard hook, Vertics give you much more thus improving you soft or plastic bait presentation in the water with confidence that your plastic is swimming correctly. Each lead head is tested and checked for balance giving you consistency cast after cast. These are indispensable for the keen lure angler and should be in every lure anglers tackle box.

The one thing that separates pro bass fisherman from amateurs is their knowledge of what works for what situation and what doesn’t. Plus these pros are best able to adapt to these problems in a bass fishing tournament because they recognize their signs and change their tactics to meet the needs of their quarry the bass. But besides learning more about bass and bass habitat and understanding what causes bass to turn on the bite your chances of landing the big one can double or triple with these killer bass fishing tips.

1. Learning to Recognize Active and Inactive Bass. It isn’t very common each time you head out on the lake are you going to find the absolute supreme ideal bass fishing conditions. You know what I am talking about, those days when you could tie on your kitchen sink and still catch more bass. Well, even though almost everyone has experienced those golden fishing trips it doesn’t happen every time does it? There are a lot of factors which determine active and inactive bass, more then can be discussed in one article but the secret to this killer bass fishing tip is be aware of it, and adapt to it when you experience it. A quick example is, no point chucking a buzzbait amongst the weedbeds in search of active bass if they have turned shy and headed for deeper drop offs.

2. What’s Inside Your Tackle box? This killer bass fishing tip is an extension of the first point. Be prepared for several bass situations before you head out on the water. Arming yourself with spinnerbaits and buzzbaits only to find the bass are shy and hunkerin down in the wood will lead to a disappointing day on the water. Learn about lures, lure choices and what affects bass and be prepared ahead of time for several different scenarios and this will insure you can adapt your bass fishing techniques to the situation of the day.

3. Check out a Map before You Fish. Many different charts are available from your local state or province that can help you catch more bass and I’m not just referring to nautical charts either. Nautical charts are a great resource for finding structure before you even put your boat in the water. Some can even be found online and others you can get from your local game and fish office for a reasonable fee. If you’re serious about bass fishing then do yourself a favor and do your homework before your next fishing trip. But besides nautical charts there are also maps you can get that show all the different species of fish found in your area for each body of water as well. I remember when I was in the army and didn’t have access to a bass boat and was stationed in a remote location I learned and discovered about this kind of map. I’m telling you what a summer I had. There were many little tiny lakes and streams noted on the map that contained populations of bass. That summer I took up challenge to explore a lot of these areas and I still remember that summer as being perhaps my most memorable bass fishing summer.

The ultimate secret to catch more bass, based on these 3 killer bass fishing tips can be summarized down to understand your quarry and do your homework ahead of time but be prepared for changing conditions and you can turn a so-so fishing experience to a bass fishing trip of a lifetime.

The knife is easily the most important piece of equipment in the fisherman’s tool kit. The line cannot be cut without a knife, but this is just one of the many uses of a knife. I recently purchased an HO Slot car set for the kids and had all this stuff around. I thought of a “good” way to store it and this was the answer.

Plano StowAway System

Plano StowAway System Review

The four individual storage boxes is just what I needed. I previously owned a multi-drawer tackle box made of canvas and zippers. Salt water and zippers don’t mix, no matter how you care for them.

The Plano box is durable plastic and can be hosed down cleaning off salt water etc. top and bottom. The upper storage area is ideal for extra spools, leader and general fishing stuff.

It is a good value for the price.

Plano 44 Magnum Tackle Box

Posted by k5115116 On April - 23 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS Subscribe here

Plano 44 Magnum Tackle Box Review

The Plano 44 Magnum is part of Plano’s Guide Series of Professional tackle boxes. This one is built rugged and stands up to the wear and tear of professional use. Latches close tight and do not slip. A rubber handle is nice for those wet days when you’re coming off the water and don’t want to worry about losing your grip on your valuable bait collection. The Duraview top really is nearly indestructible like they say… I’ve bumped and banged into quite a few boats, truck doors, and trailers with it and not even a scratch.

As an avid fisherman, I was looking for something to complement my normal tackle box (I use the Plano Professional System as my all-around box) for stick baits, poppers, and other top-water baits.

I will admit that the other reviewer is correct about it not holding things in place… but only in the outer-most compartment. The compartment with the smoke-color lens should not be used for small items such as swivels and hooks. The lid is slightly rounded and items can jump from compartment if they are less than 2mm tall — I filled the outside with my most-used stick baits!

The inside clear compartment not only holds more bait, but acts as a cover for more compartments beneath the top lid.

The bottom of the box is deep enough to hold 5 inch tall containers or multiple 3450 series boxes.

My only complaint with the box is as stated about the outer compartment’s lid, it could be made a bit differently for those wishing to fill it with terminal tackle. 4 out of 5 stars. Great tackle box.

Plano 44 Magnum Tackle Box Feature

  • Includes Plano 4 layer storage system, product brochure, nameplate order form
  • Four layers of storage
  • Mid lid and storage under top lid
  • Smoke DuraView lens
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
